Matching style to shape

This is where most rings go wrong. A halo shortens an elongated outline, so it works against an oval, marquise, or pear, and works with a round or cushion. A step-cut emerald shape carries a strong geometric signature that a busy halo competes with. Match the geometry of the setting to the geometry of the stone, and the ring will look deliberate rather than assembled.

Matching style to metal
