A grading report is an independent assessment of a stone. It matters because a diamond's value depends entirely on properties that cannot be judged by eye.

What a lab-grown grading report covers

Independent labs such as IGI grade lab-grown diamonds on the same four properties used for mined diamonds:

• Carat — the stone's weight
• Color — graded D (colorless) through to lower grades, on a scale where lower is better
• Clarity — the presence of inclusions, graded FL/IF down to I3
• Cut — how proportions, symmetry, and polish combine to produce light performance

Lab-grown reports also state origin

This is the one genuine difference from a mined-diamond report. A lab-grown report carries laboratory-grown origin and a corresponding description such as "LG_ " or "Laboratory Grown" in its laser inscription. Any report without that disclosure is not describing a lab-grown stone, and you should treat that as a serious red flag.

Verify the report yourself

Do not take our word for it, and do not take the seller's. Every stone we sell has a report number. Look that number up directly on the grading laboratory's own verification service. The report should match the stone's specification on our product page in carat, color, clarity, and cut.

If a seller cannot or will not give you a verifiable report number, that is your answer.

Why we do not grade our own stones

Self-grading is the single most common source of mislabeled diamonds in this industry. An independent lab has no commercial interest in our sale. We publish lab grades and do not adjust, round up, or describe around them.

Frequently asked questions

Is IGI the same as GIA?

Both are respected independent grading laboratories. GIA is the older institution and the reference point for mined diamonds; IGI is the largest and most widely used grader for lab-grown diamonds specifically. Either is a legitimate independent grade. What matters is that the report is verifiable and that origin is disclosed as laboratory-grown.

Can I get an appraisal for insurance?

Yes. We provide appraisals suitable for insurance. [OWNER: confirm support email] to request one for your completed order. Note that an insurance appraisal reflects replacement value and is not the same as resale value.

What if the stone on my ring does not match the report?

That is a defect on our side and we will make it right. Send us the report number and photos, and we will investigate and resolve it.
