A 3D render shows you the actual ring before it exists in metal. It is the most useful part of a custom order, and the most commonly underused.

What we produce

How to read a render, and how not to

Renders are accurate on proportion, geometry, and metal color. They are less reliable on two things, and it is worth being clear about both:

Light performance is not rendered accurately. How bright a stone actually looks depends on the environment, and a render cannot fully convey that. This matters most for step cuts like emerald and Asscher, which change character dramatically between lighting conditions.

Rendered scale is indicative. Compare the design to your own hand for proportion, but do not treat a render as a size guarantee. Your measured size is what we build to.

Using renders to make decisions

The fastest way to use a render is to ask whether the ring looks like the ring you wanted. If something is subtly off, say so — a design that is nearly right is more expensive than one that is revised. Specific feedback helps too: "the band feels too wide," "the stone sits too high," "this looks too plain." We can turn any of those into a revised model.

Comparing options

Ask for two or three renders of different settings on the same stone. This is the cleanest way to see how setting changes apparent size and character, and it is much more informative than reading descriptions. See diamond settings and engagement ring styles.

Do I have to approve a 3D render before ordering?

Yes. Nothing is cast until you approve the design. This protects you and it is why custom rings are final sale after approval, as explained in our returns policy.

How accurate is a 3D render?

Accurate on proportions, geometry, and metal color. Not fully accurate on light performance or on how brightly a specific stone will return light in a real environment. We encourage viewing the actual stone for that reason.
